The History of Guru Purnima

Guru Purnima is celebrated on the full moon day (Purnima) of the Hindu month of Ashadha. The day is dedicated to Maharishi Ved Vyasa, the great sage who compiled the Vedas, authored the Mahabharata, and composed the Puranas. Because of his immense contribution to Indian knowledge and literature, he is honoured as the Adi Guru (First Teacher), and this day is also known as Vyasa Purnima.

For thousands of years, the Guru-Shishya (Teacher-Student) tradition has been the foundation of Indian education. A guru not only imparts knowledge but also helps build character, values, discipline, and wisdom.
